my favorite part of hamlet is at the beginning when they see the ghost of hamlet sr for the first time

and the guards are like “Horatio, you go talk to it! You went to college!”

and Horatio is like “Yeah! I did go to college! I will go talk to the ghost!”

No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world.

We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.

Why the Winter Soldier is Less an Embodiment of Soviet Russia Than I Thought, or: Bucky Barnes, American Cold War Anxieties, and You

roseblight:

wizzard890:

As you might imagine, I walked into Captain America 2 ready to get my Soviet Russia on. The Winter Soldier run is one of my favorites in—well, in any comic, really, and from what I’d seen in the trailers and whatnot, it looked like we were going to get a…

The Winter Solider is one of my favorite comic arcs ever, and I loved the adaptation for all of the above reasons and more.

One of my favorite scenes of a show I adore.

Even though I’m so angry with it right now.

"I’m rooting for you." - Fangirl, by Rainbow Rowell

I Didn’t Write This is a new literary adaptation series in which I adapt and direct excerpts of poetry and literature written by other people. New episodes on Fridays, occasionally. Subscribe, maybe?

I Didn’t Write This - Ep. 6: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Directed by Yulin Kuang

Starring Mary Kate Wiles and Denver Milord

Featuring original fanart by toerning and doctorhooper

Reading Fangirl was like finding a long lost diary I had forgotten I’d kept. Thank you so much to rainbowrowell for bringing this story and these characters to life - I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that felt so much like it was written specifically for me, and there are so many of us who feel that way. That’s a pretty spectacular thing, for one author to connect directly with so many readers in one book, so infinite props to Rainbow for being her special kind of awesome.

I picked this scene because I thought it’d be the most fun to tackle for both me and my cast, as it’s one of my favorite scenes from the novel and a major turning point for Cath and Levi. I unfortunately didn’t have the time or the resources to shoot all of my favorite scenes (let’s be real here, given infinite time and money I would just shoot a Fangirl fan-feature and adapt all the fanfic parts as full-scale productions a la Sherlock's fan-theory sequences in the season three opener), but I couldn't pass up an opportunity to also direct The Outsiders scene as long as we had the set and our Cath & Levi! So check out our bonus photo montage scene adaptation over here.

Thanks for watching!

Much love,

Yulin Kuang

Check out another collaboration from Kissing in the Rain director yulinkuang and marykatewiles! Do we have any Fangirl fans in our audience?

I love this book, and I love Rainbow Rowell. So excited about these new projects.

  • Gawyn: She needs my protection.
  • Gareth Bryne: Did she *ask* for your protection?
  • Gawyn: No.
  • Gareth Bryne: Indeed. As I recall, she didn't ask for you to come with her to the Tower either, nor did she ask for you to begin following her about like a hound that has lost his master.
  • Gawyn: But she needs me!
  • Gareth Bryne: Interesting. The last time you thought that, you—with my help—upset weeks' worth of her work to reunite the White Tower. Sometimes, son, our help is not needed. No matter how freely offered, or how urgent that help may seem.
